De Tomaso Pantera revival could be based on the Gallardo

We've heard rumblings of a De Tomaso Pantera revival for the last year or so, and now reports are appearing that suggest that the new car, if it ever sees the light of day at all, may not be the same Ford-powered mid-engined supercar that we've come to know and love. We could deal with the idea that the name might have to be changed to Panthera instead of Pantera, but basing the once Ford-powered classic on Lamborghini architecture as our source suggests would surely price the vehicle far out of reach for most of us. The Lamborghini Gallardo and the Audi R8 share similar underpinnings already, and these new rumors suggest that the Pantera re-dux would be based on the same platform and also pilfer the German-Italian V10 engine, which makes us wonder if the market is willing to accept three similar super cars, all with similar running gear and similar performance.

Honda is testing for a long time now the NSX supercar; and even if it won’t be unveiled until 2010, Best Magazine gave us a pretty good idea of how the supercar will look like.

The NSX will be sold under the Acura badge, and will be powered by a 4.5 liter V10 engine that will deliver 550 hp. The AWD super will make the Nürburgring in just 7minutes and 30 seconds: better than the Porsche Carrera GT. The Japanese magazine expects the car to be priced between 12,500,000 and 15,000,000 yen (that’s $125.000-$150.000).

Via Autoblog Chinese, the parade of Beijing-bound debuts continues. Today we've got another one from Geely, which seems to be working to establish itself as a style leader in a sea of Chinese cars, the looks of which range from the vanilla to the bizarre. The renderings you see here show the Geely CE concept, a compact 5-door hatch that easily has the looks to appeal to shoppers outside of Geely's home market. If Geeley is able to bring this car to production and make it safe enough to meet Western crash test standards (something we have yet to see on anything remotely resembling a consistent basis from the Chinese manufacturers), it is going to make a lot of noise, particularly in Europe where a low-priced, stylish, compact hatch like this would sell like french fries at McDonalds. From what we've seen so far, Geely's 18-car Beijing parade is setting itself up to be a stylistic quantum leap over some of its ridiculous past concepts and mundane current offerings

Bugatti Veyron - production increased

Bugatti production

Bugatti has decided to increase production of its €1 million-plus Veyron supercar. This way, the company will build 90 units instead of 85 this year, an executive at parent company Volkswagen group said.

To increase production, Bugatti could shorten the summer break at its plant in Molsheim, France, to one week from three, the executive said.

Bugatti has 220 customer orders for the Veyron. It has delivered 135 cars so far. The company has not said what it plans to do after it completes its 300-unit run of the supercar.

Audi R4 denied

For almost a year, we've been hearing rumors from a variety of sources that Audi planned to build a mid-engine sports car that would utilize the Porsche Boxster's underpinnings after the Stuttgart crew takes a majority stake in Audi's parent company, Volkswagen. By most accounts, including a leaked product outline, the so-called Audi R4 was on its way to production by 2010. But according to Automotive News, the plans have been dashed due to Porsche executives who worry that the R4 could steal sales away from their beloved Boxster.

AN quotes an Audi spokesperson as saying that, "It was never in our product planning." While some industry insiders maintain that it's best to keep the VW/Porsche alliance separate, Nick Margetts, from the automotive analysis firm JATO Dynamics, maintains that the R4 never would have threatened Boxster sales. Margetts says that, "Audi drivers are very different from Porsche drivers," and we tend to agree.

2008 Honda CBR600RR

Saat ini gencar sekali Astra Honda Motor mengeluarkan produk-produk kuda besinya kepasaran baru-baru ini. Seperti kita ketahui seperti Fit X yang merupakan penyempurnaan dari Fit S. Dilanjutkan dengan new face lift dan new stripping pada Supra X 125 CW dan Supra X 125 PGMFI. Dan terakhir new stripping pada Honda Vario. Entah lah yang ada di benak petinggi-petinggi Honda (baca AHM). Yang penting 2007 ini mereka jangan sampai kesalip oleh Yamaha Motor Kencana Indonesia (YMKI) dalam hal total penjualan kendaraan roda dua.

Yang jadi pertanyaan, dengan begitu banyaknya produk-produk baru AHM di tahun 2007 ini, apakah AHM juga akan mengeluarkan produk-produk baru di tahun 2008 nanti? Eittt. Tunggu dulu. Jangan pesimis dulu dengan AHM. Sebab 2008 nanti, menurut salah satu sumber yang dikutip dari Tabloid Otomotif kemarin, justru akan keluar 5 produk baru baik itu penyempurnaan bodi, face lift, bahkan mesin. Untuk mesin bahkan ada yang benar-benar baru dan belum pernah dirilis selama Honda menginjakkan kakinya dibumi pertiwi ini. Apa saja itu

Mari kita telaah satu per satu tentang produk baru tersebut.

1. Honda Air Blade.


Jelas sekali Air Blade yang telah dirilis Honda Thailand beberapa waktu yang lalu, akan menjadi pesaing kuat bagi Yamaha Nouvo Z maupun Suzuki Skywave yang baru diluncurkan. Dengan tipikal bebek-matic, dan bukan skuter-matic, tampaknya AHM menyadari penggemar motor matic 2008 bisa lebih besar dari motor manual.


2. Honda New Mega Pro

Masih belum jelas apa yang akan banyak dirubah pada New Mega Pro ini. Yang jelas akan lebih dimaksudkan agar bersaing dengan Yamaha Vixion yang sampai saat ini indennya saja masih panjang sekali. Tentunya AHM tidak mau tinggal diam, karena justru Mega Pro buatan AHM kalah bersaing. Bisa jadi New Mega Pro ini menggunakan teknologi injeksi seperti halnya Supra X 125 PGMFI yang sudah menggunakan teknologi injeksi.

3. Honda Sonic 125 cc

Honda Sonic ini sebenarnya saudara dari Honda CBR 125 yang dipasarkan di Eropa. Dengan tenaga yang mencapai 13,5 HP pada kitiran 10.500 rpm. Mesin Sonic ini juga sama dengan yang digunakan Honda CBR 150 yang banyak lalu lalang dijalanan Jakarta, cuma beda cc saja. Jelas-jelas AHM akan menjadikan Honda Sonic ini saingan dengan Suzuki Satria F150.

Dengan ukuran bore x stroke 58 x 47,2 mm, jelas akan membuat mesin ini cukup bertenaga dan membuat Honda percaya diri mengikuti balapan nasional dan tidak hanya menyelenggarakan OMR. Bila dibandingkan ukuran bore x stroke Supra X 125 yang mempunyai 52,4 x 57,9 mm yang mengandalkan keiritan, tampaknya AHM mulai menyadari justru mulai banyak orang yang suka dengan motor yang kencang, dibandingkan dengan motor yang irit. Selain itu, Honda Sonic ini sanggup menembus kecepatan 160 km/jam dengan mesin standar.

4. Honda mesin baru 135 cc

Apa yang ada dipikiran banyak orang dengan produk baru Honda 135 cc ini? Di Indonesia tidak ada satupun yang bermain pada cc ini kecuali Yamaha. Produk pesaing jelas-jelas Jupiter MX 135 cc yang sudah berpendingin air. Namun belum jelas juga apakah AHM akan mengusung mesin yang berteknologi sama, atau hanya bore-up saja dari mesin 125 cc nya.

5. Honda Revo 110 cc

Saat ini kita tahu Honda Revo hanya menggunakan mesin 100 cc peninggalan Astrea jadul (jaman dulu - red). Dengan peningkatan kapasitas mesin Revo ini, jelas akan head-to-head dengan Suzuki Smash 110 cc dan Jupiter Z 110cc.

It's January and that means that its time for the annual three day extravaganza of world premieres that is the Detroit Auto Show. Dozens of production and concept vehicles will be vying for the attention of the gathered throngs of journalists that make the trek to the Motor City from all corners of the globe. This year's Detroit show press days run from Sunday, Jan. 13, through Tuesday, Jan. 15.

As in years past, the Detroit Three will be hogging much of the limelight, with center stage likely going to Ford and Dodge, as both will be rolling out all-new versions of their iconic F-150 and Ram trucks. In addition, Chrysler will be showing off a troika of eco-friendly concepts, GM will roll officially roll out its monster Corvette ZR1 and the V version of the CTS, along with a smattering of green machines including Saturn Vue Green Line Two Mode. Ford will also showcase the possible future of the Explorer with the Explorer America Concept.

Notable debuts from Asia include the production version of the Hyundai Genesis sedan, Nissan's FORUM concept, a crossover sedan from Toyota called Venza, a prototype of the next-generation Honda Pilot and Mazda's Furai race car. The Germans are also bringing plenty of sheetmetal from Europe, including the first ever U.S.-bound BMW diesels, the Baby Benz GLK ute, performance-themed Audis and a special Volkswagen Passat.

The Chinese are coming to Detroit again too, and this time in greater numbers. Five Chinese automakers in all will be present in Detroit. Making repeat appearances are Geely (2006) and Changfeng (2007). The three newcomers are BYD Auto, Chamco, and Li Shi Guang Ming. BYD is best known for its Brilliance sedan, which infamously failed Euro NCAP tests, Chamco is the American operation for a company called Zhongxing, headed by Steve Saleen, and Li Shi Guang Ming is a small purveyor of small electric cars.

FIA chief Max Mosley embroiled in S&M sex scandal

he world of motorsports was shocked by a report of a video tape which surfaced, allegedly showing FIA president Max Mosley participating in a bizarre sadomasochistic orgy. The reports emanate from British tabloid News of the World, but have been spreading rapidly across mainstream media and the motoring press.

The video reportedly depicts Mosley engaging the services of five prostitutes in London to stage a perverse reenactment of a Nazi concentration camp in which Mosley plays both victim and oppressor, alternately receiving lashes from a dominatrix and barking orders in German to the prostitutes dressed in pseudo-Auschwitz uniforms. The son of infamous wartime British fascist leader Oswald Mosley, who married Max's mother Diana in the presence of Adolf Hitler at a ceremony in the home of Nazi arch-propagandist Joseph Goebbels, Mosley had tried to help resuscitate his father's fascist political career before leaving politics for the world of motor racing. Meanwhile Mosley's closest allies include former Ferrari chief Jean Todt (the son of a Holocaust survivor) and Jewish business mogul Bernie Ecclestone, who has publicly come to Mosley's defense. Mosley is reportedly considering pursuing legal action against News of the World, while sources suggest the World Council of the FIA may be preparing a vote of no confidence in Mosley's leadership. In the meantime it's business as usual for Mosley, who is heading to Bahrain to preside over the grand prix there next weekend. (Thanks to David who brought this story to our attention.)
